Questions People Ask

She was a well dressed mature woman visiting Philadelphia and shopping in our shop. She picked up the pop-gun and looked at me with a straight face and said...
"what is the purpose of a pop-gun?"

Now....is it me??? Is this question something that needs to be answered by another human being?
The best answer to her question receives 12 points.

Incidently she did "pop" out the 3 bucks and make the purchase...

a pop-gun.

I suppose these classic toys harken back to a time when guns looked somewhat more rifle like than "gat" like. Young boys who wanted to play with guns, as for some strnge reason all kids long to, wanted to also shoot their own pump action rifle. Hence the sliding motion of a pop gun. The cork on the string provides not only a sound--pop instead of bang is rather anti-climactic but to a kid's imagination it was a blaring blast from the chamber--but also provides the means for the bullet to a. never hit someone, and b. never be lost.

Ingenious.
